3 Life Lessons I’ve Learned Before 33.
“Who looks outside dreams, who looks inside awakens.”- Carl Jung.
Today is my 33rd birthday, and birthdays are always a time of deep reflection for me. I enjoy taking this time to look back and reflect on the year that was – what went well, and what didn’t go so well? What were my biggest highlights and challenges? What did I learn? And what did I get better at saying no to?
I have to admit, I have invested a lot into myself this past year. I entered my 32nd year with big goals and dreams. There was a significant amount of time and resources I used to invest in my personal and professional development. I began most mornings with meditation and ended most nights with a book. I faced and overcame some of my biggest fears and as a result, achieved some of my biggest accomplishments.
In light of my recent reflections, I wanted to share with you the 3 life lessons I’ve learned before turning 33.
“Happiness is a choice, not a result. Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. No person will make you happy until you decide to be happy. Your happiness will not come to you. It can only come from you.” – Ralph Marston.
This past year has been one of the best, yet simultaneously one of the worst years yet. I’ve had some of my highest highs, and faced some of my lowest lows. I realised that sometimes, you have a plan, and then nothing goes to plan. I’ve learned to make the best of the set of cards that has been handed to me.
It’s been said that life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you choose to respond to it and it could not be more true. For this reason, I’ve come to the realisation that happiness is a choice. We are solely responsible for living in a beautiful state and for our own happiness.
“Investing in yourself is the best investment you will ever make. It will not only improve your life, it will improve the life of all those around you.” – Robin Sharma.
This past year, I have invested in myself more than ever before, and it has paid the biggest reward. I invested in a private coach who specialises in presence and delivering powerful presentations. I went to numerous events, hearing from some of the world’s greatest entrepreneurs and mindset coaches. This past week I attended Tony Robbins Unleash The Power Within for 4 days – something which I wanted to do but had put off for years.
I also invested in my mind and body through listening to podcasts, reading personal development books, working out at 5am on 5 days per week and incorporating meditation into my daily routine.
These investments into myself have been amongst some of the best investments I’ve ever made.
“What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?” – Vincent Van Gogh.
This past year for me has been all about feeling the fear, and doing it anyway. I overcame my fear of pubic speaking when I said yes to presenting in a room full of 250 + people. I overcame fear when I said yes to an opportunity, resulting in me launching my own podcast. And again, when I faced my fears doing the Fire Walk at Tony Robbins UPW.
The thought of doing all these things terrified me. But I did it. And it’s only by saying yes to the the things that terrify me, that I’ve been able to start tapping into my full potential and truly living out my passion and purpose in life.
