5 Powerful Ways I’ve Invested In Myself.
“It’s never a waste of time or money to invest in yourself, no matter what the source. True wealth begins inwards and emits its light outward into everything else, including the people you surround yourself with.” – will.i.am.
Investing in myself is the best investment I’ve ever made. Since making a conscious effort to invest in my personal development, my life has gotten better in every way imaginable. I’ve excelled in my career, my confidence has increased and the quality of my relationships have improved.
Since experiencing the benefits of investing in myself first hand, I wanted to share 5 powerful ways I’ve invested in myself:
One of the best ways I’ve invested in myself, is to attend business and personal development seminars and courses. There is something incredibly powerful about sitting in a room and hearing from world class performers. Yes, these seminars require you to invest in your money and time, but in my experience, they are well worth it. Taking a day or two out from your place of work or business may allow you to hear something that will change your thinking, your strategy or your life.
I am a big fan of the work Success Resources Australia do. They bring some of the world’s greatest leaders including Sir Richard Branson, Tony Robbins, Gary Vayerchuck, Robert Kiyosaki, Grant Cardone & Elena Cardone to Australia and around the world. Early bird tickets often start at a really affordable rate – sometimes as low as $79 AUD. Business Chicks also do some great events, and later this year I will be seeing Marie Forleo live.
If you have a specific development area you want to improve on, a personal development coach may be just what you need. There are reputable coaches working across multiple fields and areas of expertise. It doesn’t take a lot of work to find someone who is right for you.
I have spent some time working with a personal coach who specialises in power and presence. My coach has helped me with my public speaking skills and helping me to deliver powerful presentations in front of a large audience. Working with someone of my coaches calibre was a significant investment ($700 AUD per hour), but worth every penny. If you can accelerate your skills and build confidence, working with a coach is something worth considering.
I read one personal development or business book per month. Reading has opened up my mind to a plethora of knowledge and information. There are some books which have had a significant impact on my mindset and my life, and you can find this list here. Taking 20-30 minutes each night to read before bed is one of the best habits I’ve developed. As an added bonus, swapping screen time for books before bed also helps me to get a better night’s sleep.
If you’ve been following me on social media for a while, you may know that a couple of years ago I swapped listening to trash radio on my commute for podcasts. Listening to business and personal development podcasts has had a significant impact on my mindset, habits and routines. You can find a list of my favourite podcasts here.
I could not imagine my life without some form of exercise or working out. My best days are when I rise early and start my day with a workout. It gets my blood pumping, relieves stress and makes me feel on top of the world! I train at F45 Training 5 days per week. My membership costs around $240 AUD per month.
There are a huge variety of gyms or outdoor exercises to choose from, and my best advice here is to find something you enjoy.
Just as it’s important invest in your body, it’s equally important to invest in your mind. Incorporating meditation into my daily routine has resulted in a huge shift in my mindset. When I meditate, I feel so much more calm and in control. I also start my day in a much better state and feel I am able to deal with the day’s challenges much more effectively.
I have a subscription to headspace which costs just under $100 USD per annum (equivalent to approximately $142 AUD) and it’s one of the best investments I’ve ever made.
Investing in myself is the best investment I’ve ever made. What are some of the ways you’ve invested or would like to invest in yourself? I would love to hear your thoughts, please leave your comments below.
