For those of you who have been following me for a while now, you know how much I value and believe in self-care. It is so important to take time out of your busy schedule to focus on you and your needs. I find this is particularly important for career women, mums and those super-mums who somehow find a way to do it all! As much as I love to live a busy lifestyle, taking time out is necessary for the mind, body and soul.
Here are a few things I like to when I need to take some time out for myself and indulge in a little self-care:
Working out is one of my favourite things to do to. I like to wake up early and work out in the morning as it helps me to get my blood pumping and my head into the game. Whilst I love an intense workout and a combination of both cardio and weights, I also love more relaxed forms of exercise such as yoga or a coastal walk. Whatever it is, ensure you are carving out 30-45 minutes each day to move your body and workout.
I am no expert when it comes to meditation, however I can certainly feel the benefits of practicing meditation on a daily basis. Even a quick 10 minute session of simple breathing exercises can help set your day up the right way. I personally like to use the Headspace app, although there are a ton of various exercises and sessions you can find on YouTube if you’re unsure of where to start.
In the world of social media, it is critical for us to switch off our phones every now and then and simply take a break. I like to set my phone to ‘Do not Disturb’ or ‘Aeroplane Mode.’ This often helps me to be more present and to take a much needed break from emails and social media.
A good night’s sleep can do wonders and make you feel ready to take on the world! Adequate sleep is a key part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and can help to improve your mood, improve memory and increase clarity.
Whilst self-care shouldn’t mainly focus on our beauty regime, it doesn’t hurt to indulge in a little pampering every now and then. I like to indulge in an aromatherapy massage, get my nails done or get a blow-out. These simple practices can help me to look and feel my best!
Self-care is necessary for us to ensure we are getting adequate R&R and living a well-balanced lifestyle. It also helps us to achieve peak performance.
What are some methods and practices you use to self-care? I would love to hear your thoughts- please leave your feedback in the comments section below!
I love this list, Lara! Self-care is so important, and sadly so overlooked. I personally like to do something nice for myself every 4th of the month (birth day / lucky number). I find it gives me something to look forward to as well as reminds me to take time out for me.
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read, Vanessa! I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed the article! I love that idea of doing something for yourself on the fourth of each month- such a great way to schedule in some time for your self!
