“It’s important to build a personal brand because it’s the only thing you’re going to have. Your reputation online, and in the new business world is pretty much the game, so you’ve got to be a good person. You can’t hide anything and more importantly, you’ve got to be out there at some level.” – Gary Vaynerchuck.
If you followed me along on my Instagram stories last week, you may have seen that I woke up at 3:50am 5 days in a row to attend a virtual Build Your Brand Masterclass. This was run by Tony Robbins, Dean Graziosi and Russell Brunson. There were also some pretty spectacular guests including Jenna Kutcher and Stacey Martino who shared their incredible wisdom.
The early wake-up call was well worth it, because I gained some incredible insights on building a personal brand. Building a strong personal brand is an absolute necessity, even more so in today’s virtual world. If you do not have an online presence, not only are you doing yourself a disservice, however you are also doing a disservice to the people who need to hear what you have to say, in the way that only you can say it.
I know that putting yourself ‘out there’ can be daunting. I’ve had to do the work to get to a point in my life where I can feel the fear and do it anyway, simply because my purpose in life is too powerful not to. In fact, every single one of us has a story to tell, insights to share and an impact to make in this world.
I wanted to share my 5 key takeaways from the Build Your Brand Challenge in the hope that it will inspire you to do the same:
Every single one of us has a story to tell. Perhaps it was your mess that became your message. Or perhaps your have a passion or new skill that you have learned. In her powerful presentation, Stacey Martino posed the question:
“What is it inside of you that you can share to serve others?”
Stacey Martino used her example of her own personal story and of her marriage breaking down. Stacey was able to transform her own marriage, and together with her husband, have built a hugely successful coaching business teaching others to do the same. In the beginning, this is how they figured out to teach someone else the results they had received:
This was the basis for how Stacey and her husband created their relationship methodology. They have created an 8 step relationship transformation system with 300+ tools in their relationship development toolbox. Their relationship program has a 1% divorce rate and a 99% success rate over the past 6 years,
What is that thing inside of you, that feels like common knowledge? The reality is, that no one has walked in your shoes, and everyone has their own unique story to tell. Tap into what that is. That is your own unique power.
Once you have established your message, the next step is to find your niche. Who is your dream client? Who are you speaking to? Targeting everyone is too overwhelming and too expensive. For many of us, our dream client is the person we were 5 or 10 years ago. The more of a niche you have, the more targeted your message is, and the more confidence you’ll have.
Your niche could be anything from:
Find your dream client and know exactly who you are targeting.
Once you have determined your dream client, you need to build a framework for your business. Russell Brunson shared his four key steps to create a framework.
Jenna Kutcher spoke to the difference between a business and a brand. A business is the product / service / offer that you are selling to the world. A brand is the personality behind those offers.
We matter more than the logos, fonts and design. Whilst aesthetics are somewhat important, people connect with you and your humanness. Don’t hold yourself back because of the way something looks. We desire connection. When we focus on connection and feelings, it allows us to show up in an entirely way.
We often focus on trying to be the ‘glitziest’ version of ourselves, that we lose our ability to truly connect with people. Show up as your real, authentic self. That is what people relate to the most.
Your brand should comprise of 5 key pillars. These pillars can be anything that is interesting to you. If you had your own personal magazine, what kinds of topics would you like to read? For Jenna Kutcher, her 5 pillars are:
Just one of these topics should be about your product / service / offer. You should be connecting with people 4 out of 5 times. Creating meaningful content and connection is what matters the most. This allows you to sell ethically through serving.
Is building your own personal brand something that you have been considering? Is it something you know you need to do? Have been holding yourself back from creating a personal brand out of fear? I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Please leave your comments below!
