“One can have no smaller or greater mastery of oneself”- Leonardo da Vinci
“The true value of the human being is determined by the measure and the sense in which one has attained liberation from the self”- Albert Einstein”
Many talented people have gone unnoticed because they have not taken the time to invest, motivate or make the relevant changes necessary to bring their talent into the universe. It takes a level of effort, planning and motivation to be able to achieve self-mastery.
So how does one aim to become the best version of themselves? You can start by taking the following actions:
How do you rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 in terms of your success, mental capabilities, health, happiness and your relationships with people? Are you happy in your job or are you letting 8 hours just pass you by each day? Take some time to understand where you are currently at and determine areas of opportunity.
What is it exactly want out of life? What are your goals? Consider what you want from all aspects of your life including your career, your health and your relationships. Take the time to write them down and remember to be clear and specific. Set regular review periods to ensure you are on-track to achieving your goals.
You are your biggest investment! Make time to continually develop and invest in yourself. Whether it is reading self-development books, listening to podcasts, watching inspirational videos, attending seminars etc. Do what you need to do and make the effort to educate yourself.
If you want to become successful and achieve self-mastery, you need to be willing to make personal sacrifices. Kicking back and binge-watching tv shows is not going to get you closer to your goals. Understand your goals, find your purpose and be willing to take the necessary action to make them happen.
As Jim Rohn famously said, “you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Be aware of your surroundings and choose your friends wisely. Choose friends and associates who will help you to grow spiritually, mentally and professionally.
Whilst self-mastery is a challenge for every individual, knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom. The best day of your life is the one in which you begin to take accountability for yourself. Go out and make the necessary changes to achieve self-mastery and be the best version you can possibly be!
I absolutely loved this post. I don’t take enough time for me, my goals and my passions. I’m trying to do a little every week. I’m at 20% of where I want to be/doing. I have a long way to go and need to learn to be selfless!
