How I Manage My Side Hustle & A Full-Time Job.
“It’s not the load that breaks you down. It’s the way you carry it.” – Lou Holtz.
I have been juggling multiple priorities for as long as I can remember. One of the things I’m most frequently asked, is how I manage a side hustle with a demanding full-time job.
One of the things I have learned is that there is a real difference between being busy and productive. In order to effectively manage a side hustle, you need to focus on being productive.
In this article, I share the key strategies I’ve put in place to be able to effectively manage my side hustle with a full-time job.
In order to effectively balance completing priorities, you need to first understand why you are doing what you are doing. What is your purpose? What are you trying to achieve from your side hustle? Do you want to eventually turn your side hustle into a full-time job?
In order to be able to achieve great things, you first need to understand the why behind what you are doing.
In order to effectively manage a side hustle and a full-time job, you need to conduct an audit of how you are currently spending your time. Ask yourself questions such as:
It was through asking myself a series of questions that I was able to determine how I was spending my time, and what areas I could change the way I was spending my time.
I decided that I would develop a solid and consistent morning routine, and that I would spend my evenings working on my side hustle rather than watching Netflix. I also made the decision to dedicate Saturdays to work on my side hustle. This meant having to say no to coffees, brunches and other social events on a Saturday. I also determined that I would need to dedicate 2-3 hours on the weekend to food prepping for the week, so that I wasn’t spending my evenings cooking and cleaning in the kitchen.
One of the most effective ways I balance a side hustle with my full-time job, is by ensuring I focus on the task at hand. This means between Monday – Friday when I’m in the office, I am fully committed to being present and focusing on my full-time job. Similarly, during my scheduled work time at home, I dedicate my time and attention to focusing on my blog.
By creating a clear distinction between the work I focus on in the office for my full-time job vs. the work I do for Boss in Heels whilst at home, it means there are clear boundaries and time dedicated to provide each job the focus and attention they require and deserve.
