Key Lessons I Learned from Mark Bouris.
Last night I had the privilege of attending Mark Bouris’ Mentor Masterclass. The event was held by Success Resources Australia and hosted by Jules Lund, and was packed full of wisdom, knowledge, tools and tactics straight from Mark Bouris’ playbook.
Mark Bouris is the former host of Celebrity Apprentice Australia, founder of Wizard Home Loans and Executive Chairman of Yellow Brick Road. He has established a successful career through building disruptive businesses that challenge the market and provide better solutions for consumers. Mark has created a show with channel 7 called The Mentor which coincides with The Mentor Podcast and www.mentored.com.au. From hearing Mark speak at The Mentor Masterclass, it’s evident that he genuinely cares about small businesses.
In the Masterclass, Mark shared valuable insights, experiences and lessons learned, and I am going to unpack some of my key takeaways with you here:
If you have been following my blog for some time now, you may now that I am passionate about helping individuals to find their purpose and understanding their ‘why’. Mark spoke to this same principle of understanding our why- and learning how it applies to business. Understanding the why behind your business is what helps you to determine the how. It helps you to push through obstacles and make the right decisions.
Mark shared his insights around business mindset and belief, and the importance of being obsessed with your business. He spoke about the key differences between a fixed mindset vs. growth mindset and the need to embrace challenges and opportunities. Mark also spoke to the necessity of finding wins every day – it’s easy for us to focus on the bad, but what went well? Did you wake up early? Workout at the gym? Did you go out of your way to be nice to someone in the office? These are all wins. At the end of each day, take the time to think about the goodness in your life.
Mark shared some critical insights through his monthly coaching sessions with Kerry Packer. Part of these critical insights was the need to understand his exit strategy. Is your business exit ready? Who are you going to exit with? What is your sale price? Whatever it may be, keep the end game in sight and continually ask yourself whether you’re on the right path.
Mark shared some of his daily habits, routines and rituals. He spoke about the importance of discipline – for example, getting up at 4:45am each morning to work out even if you don’t feel like it. The velocity of your business is critical to carry the mass, in order to create the business momentum – the heart of your business. Ensure that you bring the right energy to your business.
Mark spoke about the importance of sharing your value proposition – and to be prolific at it. Be open with others and talk about your plans – it will help to keep you accountable. Continually refine your pitch until you reach a point of mastery.
Mark Bouris was incredibly open and generous with the information he provided at the Mentor Masterclass. The knowledge he shared was real, raw and authentic – and it is certainly the kind of practical information that I will be applying to my daily life as a business leader and entrepreneur. He is truly passionate about creating a community of small business owners and helping them to grow and prosper.
Mark’s mindset, power and presence truly makes him an unstoppable force. Having the opportunity to hear Mark share the tools, tactics and insights straight from his playbook was truly a valuable experience and one which I have certainly not taken for granted.
I love this and I need more! Maybe you can creat 5 seperate blogs talking about each step (too much, sorry lol) I just love this stuff and want more! Thank you for always helping and giving us things to think of and work on! XO
Thank you so much for your feedback and for taking the time to read, Jen! That’s a great suggestion and certainly something I will consider. I appreciate your ongoing support, Lara.
