Growing up, I suffered from extreme shyness and a real lack of confidence. I know what it feels like to have a voice but to be too afraid to use it for fear of being judged or not being ‘good enough.’ Whether we choose to admit it to ourselves or not, we all have limiting beliefs – that tiny voice in our head that tells us that we can’t do something, and that we shouldn’t dare to try. Through going on my own personal development journey and having a powerful and inspiring ‘why,’ I have found myself in many situations where I’ve had to face my fears. Feeling the fear […]
After embarking on a life-long personal development journey which I started a few years ago, I quickly recognised that in order to get good answers, you have to ask good questions. Not only are there questions that we should ask others, however there are questions we must ask ourselves. There are questions that we only ourselves can know the answer. Sometimes, these questions may be straight-forward and seemingly simple. At other times, these questions may bring up feelings of discomfort – an overwhelming sense of reality (or denial) which we weren’t quite ready for. Whatever may be the case, I’ve learned that in order to grow as a human being, […]
In the latest episode of Boss in Heels, I get to chat to a giant in the business and entrepreneurial podcasting space, the founder and host of Entrepreneurs on Fire, John Lee Dumas! After serving in the US Army and doing a 13-month long tour of Iraq, John returned to America at the age of 26 without a clue of what to do next. He tried law school, commercial real estate and corporate finance, but found his calling at age 32 when he started the first seven day a week podcast interviewing inspiring entrepreneurs and business leaders. JLD built the Entrepreneurs on Fire podcast from nothing to a million downloads […]
Many of us find ourselves to be motivated at the beginning of the new year. We start each year with big dreams, big goals and big aspirations. But what happens a few months in to the year when life gets in the way? When we start to feel burnt out and exhausted? When we lose momentum and motivation? When we find ourselves in a mid-year slump? In recent years, I have developed a habit of conducting a mid-year review on my progress. What has gone well? What hasn’t gone so well? How do I intend on spending the next 6 months of the year? There are a few practices I […]

It was a real privilege to recently speak with Sally Bruce on The Boss in Heels Podcast. From growing up in a country town of just 1,500 people and the youngest of six children, Sally Bruce’s meteoric rise in the financial sector began when she was 17 years old, working at Macquarie Bank while studying at uni. Sally very quickly found herself in leadership positions, which led her to become the CEO and Managing Director of AMP Bank, where, under her leadership, the bank doubled profits and had a profound cultural shift. Sally stepped down as CEO to spend more time with her family but was quickly head hunted to […]
Setting boundaries is an important part of establishing our own identity. Boundaries are essential in ensuring that we achieve our goals. They are a crucial aspect of our mental health and wellbeing. According to Positive Psychology, a boundary is “a limit or space between you and the other person; a clear space where you begin and where the other person ends.” Boundaries can be in a physical form or an emotional form. As someone who used to be a people pleaser, I have learned the hard way the negative impact of not having clear boundaries. The feeling of burnout, disappointment and resentment would consistently come up for me. I would […]
We have been living in very interesting and unusual times. Fear and negativity have certainly infiltrated the thoughts and lives of many. It is only when we silence our thoughts and make a conscious choice to rid our lives of negativity, that we can start to live a more positive life. Despite it all, I would say one of the greatest gifts I have given myself is to live a (mostly) positive life. I choose to focus on all the goodness around me. As Oprah so eloquently says, “What you focus on expands, and when you focus on the goodness in your life, you create more of it.” There are a few […]

“Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity and responsibility to give something back by becoming more.” – Tony Robbins. 2020 has been one of the most disruptive and challenging years yet. Many of us experienced significant chaos, disruption and uncertainty. Our plans came to an abrupt hold. Businesses closed down. People have lost their jobs and livelihoods. Many individuals experienced isolation, loneliness and adversity. It truly has been a difficult year, and I am yet to meet anyone who is leaving 2020 completely unscathed. At the end of last year, I wrote an article which spoke to my intentions for 2020. I wrote the following: As […]
