3 Ways To Start Taking More Pride In Yourself & Your Work.
“The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential. These are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence” – Confucius.
Taking pride in yourself and your work is something which can give you leverage in your professional lives, and for a greater purpose.
Taking pride in the details can often contribute towards producing a high standard and quality of work. These results can transpire regardless of whether it is in the workplace or any other environment.
There are a few key methods I’ve adopted to ensure I take pride in myself and my work:
Ann Miura-Ko, founder of Floodgate Venture Capitalist Firm, a lecturer in entrepreneurship at Stanford and named by Forbes as the most powerful woman in startups talked to her goal of continuously delivering a world class performance.
Regardless of whether it was photocopying documents, or picking up donuts, Ann’s father would ask her “Are you going to deliver a world-class performance?” This question was instilled in Ann from a young age and transpired from her childhood, through to her studies and professional career. When it came to photocopying documents, Ann decided that a world-class performance meant really crisp copies, where you couldn’t tell it was a photocopy. She would spend time focusing on the details and ensuring everything was straight and colour matched. When it came to picking up donuts, Ann would ensure she would pick up the fresh donuts, instead of the ones that had been standing out in the basket for a while. So at every step of the way, it was “What can I do to make this experience delightful?” or “What can I do to make this world class?”
Take pride in the small details. Make a point to ask yourself – are you going to deliver a world class performance?
One of the ways in which I strive for continuous improvement is to invest in my personal and professional development. I’ve found that carving out time as part of my daily routine to invest in myself has been instrumental in my personal and professional development. You can start with a really simple change, such as swapping out trash radio during your morning routine to listen to a podcast.
Investing in your personal and professional development can help you to improve and ultimately achieve your goals. Make a conscious commitment to yourself to invest in your development and strive for continuous improvement.
“You cannot climb the ladder of success dressed in the costume of failure.” – Zig Ziglar.
Take pride in the way that you present yourself. Dress like you are on the road to success. Iron your shirt, polish your shoes and ensure you hair and nails are clean and tidy at all times. If you want to start being taken seriously, you have to start presenting yourself in a professional manner. Start each day the right way by putting your best foot forward and putting effort into how you show up.
What are some of the methods or practices you use to take pride in yourself and your work? I would love to hear your thoughts, please leave your comments below!
I love all your points. Starting my career , I took pride in everything I did and I wanted to do it better than anyone else had ever done. I made sure I was always dressed professionally and was always eager to learn. We stop doing some of these things once we get promoted, but we need to continue to keep going and growing.
Great post!
